Arlene Pearl Nicholson Gaspar, 94, of Morgantown, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at Stonerise Morgantown Nursing and Rehab. She was born March 20, 1926, in Morgantown, the daughter of the late George and Margie Murray Nicholson.
Mrs. Gaspar was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Louis Edward Gaspar; only child, Steve “Butch” Thomas Gaspar; five brothers, Virgil, Willard, Vernis, Millard and Billy; and three sisters, Georgia, Clarice and Lucille.
Arlene was a homemaker, known for her generosity and delicious cream puffs and nut rolls. In her younger years, she enjoyed baking, quilting, gardening and taking care of her family and home. She was a strong, caring, Christian woman and a member of Nicholson Chapel Church.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Sharon Ann Gaspar; three grandchildren, Tara Lynn Blosser (Dennis), of Morgantown, Lisa Renee Landon (C. Ian), of Abingdon, Va., and Steve Thomas Gaspar Jr. (Robin), of Holly Springs, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Makayla Lynn Blosser, of Morgantown, Garrett Thomas and Matthew Tyler Landon, of Abingdon, Va., Nichole Lynn and Crosby Brooke Gaspar, of Holly Springs, N.C.; one sister, Mearl McDonald; two brothers, the Rev. Elmer “Scoop” Nicholson and the Rev. Francis “Jake” Nicholson; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two sisters-in-law, Shirley and Patty Nicholson; and brother-in-law, Gene Dalton.
The family of Arlene would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of Stonerise Morgantown (formerly Mapleshire Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation) for their excellent care and compassion for Arlene.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Arlene to Nicholson Chapel Church, 1326 Summers School Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from
3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13. Visitation will continue at Nicholson Chapel Church, Summers School Road, Morgantown from 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Elmer Nicholson and the Rev. Francis Nicholson officiating. Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery.
