Joyce (Starkey) Silk, 71, of Jeannette, Hempfield Township, Pa., passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville, Pa., following a hard-fought battle with COPD. Joyce was born April 28, 1949, in Morgantown, the youngest daughter of the late Charles Virgil and Wilma Starkey.
She is survived by her husband Jerry, of 43 years; son, Chad Silk; and grandchildren, Cole and Cali, all of Jeannette, Pa. Also surviving are sons: Dan (Linda) Silk, of Waverly, Va.; Jerry (Patti) Silk, of Ayleet, Va.; and Jeff, of Derby, Kan. Additional surviving grandchildren include: Corey Cramer (Lenora Metheney), Michael Silk; Brittany Jones, Christopher (Magan) Silk; Dominique (Eddie) Arnold; and Daniele Silk and J.T. Silk. Also surviving Joyce are great-grandchildren: Kaylee Cramer, Caden Silk and Ryatt Jones. Joyce is also survived by her sister Judy (George) Foster, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; niece, Brandy (Jake) Hutchinson; and great-nieces, Gracie Kershner and Abby Buretz.
Joyce was a 1967 graduate of Morgantown High School and attended West Virginia University. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by USX Federal Credit Union New Stanton Branch. Prior to her illness, she was an avid golfer and loved vacationing in Saint Maarten. The family wishes to acknowledge a special group of high school class-mates, “The Ruby’s Group,” and two very special ladies who shared their friendships with Joyce throughout her life — Karen Keener Guminey, of Morgantown, and Theresa Lowry, of Glasgow, Va. Visitation will be held in the Mason-Gelder Funeral Home Inc. Jeannette, Pa., from 10 a.m.-noon Monday Jan. 11. Due to current CDC guidelines, masks are required in the building and social distancing should be practiced. A limited number of people are allowed in the building at a time. A graveside service will take place at noon on Tuesday at Westmoreland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Westmoreland County in her memory.
