James “Jim” Petitte, 83, passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2021, in his daughter’s home in Morgantown, after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 29, 1937, in Fairmont, son of the late John Petitte Sr., and Evelyn (Jones) Petitte. After graduating from St. Francis High School in 1955, he went on to attend college at Potomac State College where he played football and baseball. After college, Mr. Petitte returned to Morgantown where he operated several successful coal businesses in the Maidsville area of Monongalia County. He was recognized by his peers as an innovator and leader in his industry. He made every employee feel important and appreciated all their efforts.
Jim is survived by his five children: Michele Krucoff, James Petitte Jr., Joseph (Cindy) Petitte, Laura Protzman and Priscilla Petitte and his 11 grandchildren: Joseph and Jennifer Protzman, Jacob Krucoff, Kaylynn Petitte, Ava and Luca Petitte and Aaliya , Nai’la, Talia, Zahir and Mya Mohammed. He also leaves behind his beloved siblings: Sandra (Charles) Guseman, Victoria (Ted) Connor and Emilio Petitte, and John (Janet) Petitte. Additionally, he leaves behind two former wives: Vee Ann Petitte, of Palm Desert, Calif., and Pamela Tomasky, of Uniontown, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jasper (Sharon) Petitte.
Jim enjoyed WVU football, the outdoors and any moment spent with his children and grandchildren. He was known to all as a kind and generous man. He will be sadly missed.
The family would like to thank the hospice nurses of Amedysis for their unwavering support and compassion during the days leading up to his passing, and two special CNAs at the Madison, Roy and Brenda. The family will hold a celebration of life ceremony at a later date.
Cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home/Omega Crematory and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
