Richard Leo “Dick” DeGolyer, 89, of Kingwood, passed away on Dec. 28, 2020, at Windy Hill Village.
Dick was born May 19, 1931, one of 13 children and one of the original Arthurdale homesteaders, a son of the late Clarence and Elnora Catherine Eisenman DeGolyer.
Dick honorably served in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1954. He worked in the maintenance department at Albright Power Station for over 40 years. He was a lifetime supporter of Preston County Schools and Sports and devoted a great deal of his retirement years to volunteering at Preston High School. Dick was also a volunteer at the Buckwheat Festival hot dog stand throughout the 80s and 90s. He enjoyed the outdoors and attending women’s WVU basketball games with his close friend.
He is survived by his sister, Rita; son, Rick DeGolyer and wife Mary, of Kingwood; his daughter, Debra K. DeGolyer (Williams); four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Norma “Eloise” Tennant DeGolyer and 11 brothers and sisters.
His ashes will be laid to rest at a private family service held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Arthurdale Heritage or your local church in his memory.
