Owner heard explosion from dryer that was in use
No one was injured in a house fire that closed Fairchance Road for several hours on Tuesday.
The owner of the home was using the dryer, heard an explosion and found fire coming out of the appliance, according to Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jason Christopher.
The homeowner was able to put the dryer fire out, but the flames had spread into the walls and attic of the structure.
When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming from the side of the house and from under the eaves, Christopher said. The fire was extinguished without issue.
The first units were sent to 554 Fairchance Road — just north of the Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department — at 9:24 a.m. and the last unit left the scene at 11:32 a.m., according to MECCA 911.
Volunteer firefighters from Star City, Brookhaven, Bruceton Mills, Smithfield, Pa., and Granville with the Mon County tanker and Mon EMS also responded to the call.
