Winter weather wreaks havoc

Newsroom@DominionPost.com

Wednesday’s promised winter storm may not have brought as much snow as initially predicted, but a mix of snow, rain and sleet left roads slick and contributed to a handful of wrecks in the area.

Pickup trucks on  Interstates 79 and 68 rolled over and required extraction efforts, according to emergency radio traffic. More information was not available in time for this report.

On I-79, near the Westover exit, a Jeep Wrangler slid off the interstate. No one was injured. Vehicles also crashed into utility poles on  Van Voorhis Road, near St. Clairs Village, and on River Road, near Birchfield Run Road.

At least two crashes were reported on Kingwood Pike.

Multiple other minor wrecks were reported  Wednesday.

And motorists should have an easier time on the roads today, as only flurries and cloudy skies are expected in Monongalia and Preston counties, with temperatures reaching highs in the mid-30s.
