Nancy Louise Utt Gidley, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020. She was born on April 12, 1944, in Morgantown, to George O. Utt and Dorothy E. Pierce Utt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George R. Utt; and cousin, Robert R. Smith. She is survived by her loving husband of over 58 years, David T. Gidley; their two children, Susan P. Gidley Floyd with fiancé Paul Slone, and Thomas E. Gidley with wife Michelle; and five grandsons, Scott Floyd with wife Melanie, Lee Floyd, Philip Gidley, Jacob Gidley and Benjamin Gidley; and cousin, Linda L. Smith Casey.
Nancy volunteered as a Candy Striper at Vincent Pallotti Hospital during her high school years. That is also when she met her life-long love, David. They married on Nov. 24, 1962 just a few months after graduating high school together. After several years of raising two young children, she received training and went to work for the accounting department at WVU Hospitals where she retired from in 1997. In addition to holding down a full time job, she was president of the Westover Junior High Band Auxiliary during her children’s stint in the band. She continued to support her children’s endeavors in the Morgantown High Band, private lessons, baseball and more. Together with husband David, the couple had many Friday night dates dancing in the Western Stars Square Dance Club. Their membership included several years as president couple of the club.
In addition to square dancing, Nancy enjoyed camping, attending concerts, plays, many types of cultural events and going to yard sales. She was a doting grandma to her five grandsons, taking pleasure in each of their endeavors and accomplishments throughout the years.
Nancy’s going home celebration arrangements are provided by McCulla’s Funeral Home in Westover. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18 and from 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 until the service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery. Chaplain Thomas Gidley will officiate. In regards to the current health concerns, family and friends may attend while wearing a mask inside. In addition, the family welcomes anyone who only wishes to attend the interment.
