No one was injured in a house fire on Brockway Avenue Tuesday night.
That’s according to the Morgantown Fire Department, which responded to the fire at 376 Brockway, on the corner with Kingwood Street, about 9:40 p.m.
Even the emotional support pet of one of the residents made it out, said Arthur Trusler, broker for Bel-Cross Properties, which owns the house.
Both units were rented, one by international students and one by “young professionals,” Trusler said. They all had someone to stay with Tuesday night and Bel-Cross found alternative housing for those in one apartment and is working to find alternative housing for those in the other.
When the Morgantown firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from windows on the third floor at the front of the building. Firefighters were able to access the area and put the blaze out.
A second alarm was called to back fill personnel at the stations while firefighters worked.
The Morgantown Code Enforcement Office and Mon EMS also responded.
Code Enforcement told The Dominion Post Wednesday the building was condemned because of the fire.
Trusler said they don’t know if the property can be saved yet and are working with the insurance company to figure out the next steps.
The majority of the damage from smoke and fire was restricted to the upper levels but the rest of the property suffered water damage. It will be a “significant repair” if it can be repaired, Trusler said.
A cause has not been determined and Morgantown Fire Marshal’s Division is investigating.
