As a junior, he was named to the weekly ECAC defensive All-Star team. His 56-yard interception helped seal WVU’s 24-14 victory over Syracuse. He made an awesome 99-yard interception return during the final game of the season at Virginia Tech to help the Mountaineers earn a 22-21 victory in Blacksburg, Va. This play was mentioned in Coach Bowden’s book, “Called to Coach,” which he credited as saving his job. He was voted the team’s best tackler heading into his senior season. Marcus was drafted to the New York Giants in 1975. Due to a knee injury, he was placed on the Injured Reserve list before he turned in his football cleats. He would later be recognized for his high school athletic accomplishments by being inducted into the Cleveland County Hall of Fame on May 9, 2018.

Marcus answered the call into ministry and preached his initial sermon at Washington Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, N.C. in 1976. He attended Fruitland Bible Institute in Asheville, N.C. from 1983-1990 and Emmanuel Bible College in Shelby, N.C.
