Lucy Hogan Gott

Lucy Harriet Hogan Gott went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Dec. 5, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Lucy was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Pursglove, to Burr and Rose Corley. She graduated from Tygarts Valley High School in 1946. The following year, she married her World War II sweetheart, William Sherman Hogan, and together they were blessed with three daughters, Linda Sue Oliver (William Don), of Morgantown, Sandra Mitchell, of Cumberland, Md., and Rosemarie Martin (Chris) of Morgantown.

Lucy was a dedicated homemaker, and she also worked for a few years as a laboratory technician in the Home Economics Department of WVU. She was an active member of the Morgantown Christian & Missionary Alliance Church since 1971, serving as a Deaconess, choir member, and lovingly arranging flowers for the church altar for many years. Lucy’s hobby was flower arranging, and she touched many people with her floral arrangements. She was a member and past president of the Durbannah Garden Club, of Morgantown. Lucy’s life was guided by scripture and her favorite verse was from Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”

Left to cherish her memory are eight grandchildren: Chris Oliver, John Oliver, Erin Barker, Dan Barker, Emma Mitchell, Christy Martin, Allan Martin, Audrey Martin and Nan Nan, her “adopted” international granddaughter. Her seven great-grandchildren are: Hannah Oliver, Caedmon Oliver, Lucy Oliver, Emmy Oliver, Micah Oliver, Abby Oliver and Camille Oliver.

Lucy was preceded in death by her first husband, William Sherman Hogan, in 1998, after 50 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Amos Gott, in 2019. Also preceding her were her brother, Hobert Corley, and sisters, Florence Dunn, Lorraine Crickard and Rosalie Burcaw.

A private burial service will be held at East Oak Grove Cemetery on Friday, Dec. 11, officiated by Pastor Douglas Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy’s memory to The Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 308 Elmhurst St., Morgantown WV 26505. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
