John David “Dave” Heft Sr., 81, of Morgantown, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2020.
The son of the late Robert and Mary Heft, he was born Nov. 22, 1939, in Morgantown.
Dave owned and operated Dave’s Body Shop for more than 50 years. He enjoyed drag racing and was a member of the NHRA. Dave named his car, Copperhead and raced at Eldora raceway. Dave was also an active member of the Dream Machines car club.
Dave is survived by three children, Debi Taylor and her husband Jim, John David Heft Jr. and Patty Royce and her husband, Ken; nine grandchildren; and a dear friend, Nancy Deiner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Heft; a son, James Heft; and a brother, Robert Heft.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mapleshire Nursing Home for the care and compassion given to Dave.
Private graveside services were held for the family at Oak Grove Cemetery.
