HOW THEY SCORED: Iowa State 42, West Virginia 6

FIRST QUARTER

IOWA STATE TOUCHDOWN: Breece Hall 23 run (5:51), Iowa State leads, 7-0.

Following a fourth-down conversion, the Cyclones quickly got back to the line of scrimmage and Hall took the handoff up the middle and broke a tackle and then broke outside to the right and outraced everyone else to the end zone.

WVU was caught off guard on the play and was still running substitutes on and off the field. Iowa State declined the illegal substitution penalty.
It was Hall’s 17th touchdown of the season.

SECOND QUARTER

IOWA STATE TOUCHDOWN: Brock Purdy 10 run (14:17), Iowa State leads, 14-0.

The Cyclones drove 44 yards on 11 plays and Purdy capped it off after using a strong fake handoff to Hall and then he ran in on off the left side.

IOWA STATE TOUCHDOWN: Landen Akers 2 pass from Purdy (2:49), Iowa State leads, 21-0.

The Mountaineers defense simply did not show up on this possession.

Iowa State faced a first-and-goal from the WVU 1, but after two penalties was pushed back to the WVU 26.

That did not stop the Cyclones from scoring.

Purdy, who went 6 for 6 on the 12-play drive, found a wide open Xavier Hutchinson for 21 yards and then Hall ran for three yards.

On the scoring drive, Purdy rolled to his right and found his senior tight end for the score.

THIRD QUARTER

IOWA STATE TOUCHDOWN: Charlie Kolar 16 pass from Purdy (3:10), Iowa State leads, 28-0.

Kolar fought off Alonzo Addae in the end zone and made a one-handed grab with his left hand for an impressive score.

Addae was called for pass interference on the play, which was declined.

Iowa State needed only five plays to drive 73 yards. Hall had three carries for 33 yards on the drive.

IOWA STATE TOUCHDOWN: Kene Nwangwu 47 run (0:07), Iowa State leads, 35-0.

The Iowa State senior backup went untouched right up the middle, as the Cyclones add even more misery to the Mountaineers.

At this point, Iowa State had more rushing yards (197) than the Mountaineers had in total yards (167).

FOURTH QUARTER

WVU FIELD GOAL: Tyler Sumpter 32-yard kick (12:00), Iowa State leads, 35-3.

The Mountaineers finally get on the board after an 8-play 67-yard drive.

WVU had a shot at a touchdown on a third-down play, but Iowa State defensive back Lawrence White made a great defensive play to keep the ball from getting to WVU receiver Winston Wright Jr. and the Mountaineers settled for the kick.

Sumpter was brought in for the kick after Casey Legg missed wide right on a 41-yarder earlier in the game.

IOWA STATE TOUCHDOWN: Hall 28 pass from Purdy (7:07), Iowa State leads, 42-3.

On a fourth-and-five play, Purdy took the shotgun snap and scrambled away from the WVU rush.

He found a wide open Hall along the right side and Hall simply jogged into the end zone for his second touchdown of the game.

WVU FIELD GOAL: Sumpter 36-yard kick (2:46), Iowa State leads, 42-6.

WVU used 13 plays to drive 49 yards. The highlight was Isaiah Esdale catching a 20-yard pass on fourth-and-14 to keep the drive alive.
