A young girl died in a house fire on Days Run Road Thursday morning.
Her parents and brother escaped.
“[Firefighters] got toned out for a structure fire with possible entrapment,” Blacksville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kevin Wilson said. “Got here on scene, the house was fully involved. They tried to make entrance to check for the little girl, couldn’t get inside, got the fire knocked down and did find a victim inside.”
Wilson said as far as he knew, the victim was a 2-year-old girl who lived there with her family. Firefighters were waiting for a state fire marshal before proceeding further and it was unclear what started the fire Thursday afternoon.
The child’s father was taken to the hospital as a precaution and her mother was checked by Mon EMS on scene, Wilson said. A 4-year-old boy who lived in the home also made it out.
Names of the victim and her family were not released Thursday.
Wilson said dealing with a death like this is hard for his guys, especially around the holidays.
“It comes with the job,” he said. “You just hate to see it.”
Mon EMS will set up a guy to talk about what happened and how to deal with it, Wilson said.
Brenda Hare, a neighbor, said the girl’s dad was born in that house and lived there all his life.
“My heart just breaks for him,” she said.
Hare said she didn’t see her neighbors much because of her work schedule, but she will do anything she can for them. She said the family will need the support of the community.
Volunteer firefighters from Mount Morris, Pa., Cassville, Wayne Township, Wadestown, Grant Town and Fairview also responded to the fire.
The fire was reported about 10:40 a.m.
