Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, which runs six Goodwill stores in north-central West Virginia, is hiring 50 people in the Morgantown area to staff a combination outlet and operations center it plans to open next month.
Hiring events at the Goodwill stores in Bridgeport, Buckhannon, Elkins, Fairmont, Sabraton and Westover will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. For a list of available positions and to apply online, go to www.goodwillncwv.org/jobs.
David Tobiczyk, a Goodwill spokesman, said the center will be at 6540 Mall Road, which is next to Rural King. Locally, Goodwill has stores in Westover and Sabraton.
“We have six stores in north-central West Virginia and they all work in conjunction with each other,” he said.
The outlet and operations center will take 45,000-square feet with the retail portion taking 8,000 square feet.
The operations portion of the center will distribute items to its area stores not only in Westover and Sabraton, but also in Fairmont, Bridgeport, Elkins and Buckhannon.
Tobiczyk said stores usually keep merchandise in the store for up to five weeks. After that time, the items are sent to an outlet, or a recycler.
“At the outlet, we’ll sell clothes by the pound,” he said.
Michelle Zajac, director of human resources at Goodwill, said it’s an opportunity for fulfilling employment.
“We are 1,000-plus people working as one,” she said. “And each one of us is essential to helping our community thrive. If you want to do great work on great things with great people, you’ve come to the right place.”
