Karen E. Helmick, 71, of Terra Alta, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, at Pine Ridge Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Kingwood.
The daughter of the late Harland D. and Nellie Alletha Stahl Spahr, she was born July 7, 1949, in Kingwood. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She absolutely adored her grandchildren.
Karen cooked for many years at the Owls Club.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin (Carla) Fike and Kenny Fike, both of Terra Alta; two daughters, Krista (Mathew) Nazelrod, of Terra Alta, and Brittany Helmick, of Grafton; one brother, Robert Spahr, of Martinsburg; five grandchildren, Kurtis, Kyle and Kelvin Fike and Kendra and Lukas Nazelrod; and seven great-grandchildren, Korah, Kevin, Brycen, Wyatt, Drew, Kali and Meredith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Spahr, and her husband, Willard Joe Helmick, on Nov. 25, 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private family service. The family realizes Karen was known by many and look forward to reading the condolences left at the funeral home’s website.
Interment will follow in the Terra Alta Cemetery.
