What started out as a snowy week for Preston and Mon Counties will wind up chilly, but not without a bit of unseasonably warm weather in between.
That’s according to Accuweather senior meteorologist Bob Smerbeck.
“We had a shot of cold that’s still with us right now,” he said Wednesday. “It was close to freezing this morning, and the temperatures haven’t risen very much. But [that system] will move off to the East Coast” — leaving sunshine and 60 degree temperatures in its wake.
Today, Smerbeck said, is likely to be a “classic West Virginia day” for autumn.
It may get down as low as 28 degrees this morning, with a big jump up to 66 degrees in the afternoon in Morgantown. As usual, it will be a bit cooler in Preston County, but still warmer than usual.
“This seems to happen a lot in West Virginia, because you’re on the west side of mountains,” he said.
Friday and Saturday, the area will likely see highs in the 60s in Monongalia and Preston counties, with some cloud cover.
Another cold front will come through Sunday night, but Smerbeck doesn’t expect temperatures will be cold enough for snow.
“It will cool off to where you typically would be [for fall] Monday, with a little moisture left behind. It may drizzle in the morning.”
