MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Gov. Jim Justice announced Friday as part of his daily briefing that winter sports — swimming, wrestling, and boys’ and girls’ basketball — will be put on hold until Jan. 11, 2021.
The decision also postpones any practicing or training. Any form of sanctioned practices that have already begun will be halted effectively immediately. Justice and his team will reassess the situation after the postponement ends. This personally affects Justice, a girls’ basketball coach at Greenbrier East. The Spartans were competing at the state tournament in March when the first round of cancellations hit West Virginia high school sports.
As for fall sports, they will be allowed to finish as scheduled per the WVSSAC guidelines.
