Men accused of breaking into home, attacking man

Two men are accused of breaking into a house on Fife Avenue, attacking a man and destroy items on Saturday in retaliation for an incident a week earlier.

Richard W. Gaskill Jr., 20, and Peter M. Hogan, 22, both of New Jersey, are charged with burglary and conspiracy to inflict injury by the Morgantown Police Department. Hogan is additionally charged with obstructing an officer and public intoxication.

A woman called 911 and said two men came into their house, beat up her boyfriend and “busted up everything,” according to a criminal complaint.

The MPD were sent to the house on Fife Avenue at 2:11 a.m. on Saturday.

The male victim had bruises on his forehead and scratches on his body and the female victim had a bruise above her left knee from a candle that was thrown at her, the complaint said.

Items destroyed include a TV and a Mac computer that was “thrown out the front window breaking the class,” according to the complaint.

Just before 4 a.m. the MPD were called back to Fife Avenue because the suspects from the burglary had returned to the scene. According to the complaint, one of the men, Hogan, pulled away and would not comply with officers’ orders while he was being detained.

Hogan initially refused to provide his name but eventually did and officers had to “escort the male to the ground” to handcuff him.

The complaint said he had the strong odor of alcohol on his breath, “extremely” bloodshot and glassy eyes, and thick, slurred speach.

The complaint said both Hogan and Gaskill went to the house “in retaliation to an incident that occurred a week earlier.”

“The incident it is an active sexual assault investigation,” A city spokesperson said. “I am not able to provide any additional information.”
