The Fairmont State University Student Government Association, in partnership with Marion County Schools, is seeking assistance from the community to provide Christmas gifts for underprivileged elementary school children.
The SGA Christmas with a Falcon sponsorship program exemplifies the spirit of Christmas by helping others in need. Local organizations and community members are invited to support children through monetary donations used to brighten Christmas morning for them.
“This year, more than ever, our Falcon heart needs to loom large,” Mirta M. Martin, president of Fairmont State University, said. “Many children and families in our area were struggling before the global pandemic. Whether through COVID-related illness or job insecurity, those children now face a colder winter than most of us can imagine. I sincerely urge all in our Falcon family to donate to this initiative — your gift will have an immediate and profound impact, and will surely brighten a child’s Christmas.”
A $100 donation sponsors one child, but all donations are welcome. Fairmont State SGA will coordinate buying, wrapping and delivering gifts. All donations will be allocated for the Christmas with a Falcon program.
“Christmas morning can be a bright and happy time for many children,” said Zachary Taylor, Fairmont State Student Government Association Representative. “Sadly, here in Marion County many children will wake up to nothing but an empty tree. Please take a few moments to donate and help us give these children a Christmas.”
Donations can be made online by visiting the Fairmont State University Foundation website at fsu foundation.org/giving/ give. All donations made should be designated to the Falcon Fund, indicating the funds are for the Christmas with a Falcon Program. Cash and checks are also accepted. Please make checks payable to Fairmont State University.
