Preston increases community COVID testing

County registers fifth death amidst case surge

KINGWOOD — A fifth Prestonian died of COVID-19 over the weekend, the State Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reported, and community testing sites are now active.

A 77-year-old woman was the latest victim of the virus from Preston. The news came as the Preston County Health Department announced Monday that 19 new cases of the virus were identified over the weekend.

Community testing sites will be held:

  • Monday, Nov. 9
    2-5 p.m., Terra Alta Fire Department, enter off State Street.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 10
    8 a.m.-noon, Firemen’s Field, Kingwood, enter off Price Street at the Hot Dog Stand.
    2-5 p.m., Denver Church, directly across from West End Road, enter driveway off South Preston Highway.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 11
    8 a.m.-noon, WesBanco Bank, Bruceton, enter using entrance to the parking lot.
    2-5 p.m. Denver Church, directly across from West End Road, enter the driveway off South Preston Highway.
  • Thursday, Nov. 12
    8a.m.-noon, Firemen’s Field, Kingwood, enter off Price Street at the Hot Dog Stand.
    2-5 p.m., Terra Alta Fire Department, enter off State Street.
  • Friday, Nov. 13
    8 a.m.-noon, Denver Church, directly across from West End Road, enter the driveway off South Preston Highway.
    2-5 p.m., WesBanco Bank, Bruceton, enter using entrance to the parking lot.
  • Saturday, Nov. 14
    8 a.m.-noon, Terra Alta Fire Department, enter off State Street.

The testing comes as Preston endures its biggest surge of virus cases. Totals are now 246 confirmed cases, 27 probable cases, 214 recovered and 64 active cases.

As of Saturday, on the DHHR seven-day average map Preston is ranked orange in the infection rate, with 20.08% and gold on the positivity rate, at 4.43%. The daily positivity rate is the number of tests divided by the number of positives.

On the State Board of Education map update Saturday, Preston was ranked yellow.

The Preston County Health Department continues to remind people to wear masks, social distance and wash their hands, as those are the most effective weapons against COVID-19.
