HOW THEY SCORED: Texas 17, West Virginia 13

FIRST QUARTER

TEXAS TOUCHDOWN: Brennan Eagles 7-yard pass from Sam Ehlinger (12:35), Texas leads, 7-0.

The Longhorns’ offense took advantage early with a 54-yard run from Bijan Robinson on a counter that put Texas in the red zone.

Ehlinger found Eagles after coming off his first read, so he had plenty of time in the pocket.

WVU TOUCHDOWN: Leddie Brown 12-yard run (8:58), game is tied, 7-7.

WVU quarterback Jarret Doege came up with a big play with a 38-yard pass to Winston Wright Jr. on third-and-10, which set up Brown for his ninth rushing touchdown of the season.

Brown squirted up the middle after Doege did a good job of making it look like a pass play, and once Brown broke through the line of scrimmage he basically could have walked in.

SECOND QUARTER

TEXAS FIELD GOAL: Cameron Dicker 34-yard kick (14:55), Texas leads, 10-7.
Texas drove 74 yards in 10 plays, but West Virginia’s defense came up with a big stop on third-and-two by getting to Ehlinger behind the line to set up the kick.

THIRD QUARTER

WVU FIELD GOAL: Casey Legg 25-yard kick (10:11), game is tied, 10-10.

West Virginia got Brown going again in the running game some and Doege went 5 of 6 passing on the drive.

Of course, the one incompletion came on third down on a pass that was batted down at the line of scrimmage, which forced the kick.

TEXAS TOUCHDOWN: Jake Smith 33 pass from Ehlinger (7:31), Texas leads, 17-10.

On third-and-11, Smith got on the inside of WVU safety Sean Mahone and hauled in the score on a deep double-move post pattern.

The Longhorns caught a break earlier in the drive when Robinson fumbled, but the ball was recovered by teammate Joshua Moore.

WVU FIELD GOAL: Legg 34-yard kick (0:22), Texas leads, 17-13.

The Mountaineers missed out on an opportunity to tie the game when Doege found Wright Jr. in the back of the end zone for an 8-yard score, but after a review, it was ruled Wright Jr. did not secure the ball before hitting the ground.

On the next play, Doege was sacked by Texas’ DeMarvion Overshown and WVU had to settle for the field goal.
