KINGWOOD — Winter coats will be given away from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Preston Courthouse parking annex, next to the McGrew House at the corner of Main and Price streets.
The giveaway is being sponsored by the Kingwood Rotary Club.
Tarrell Ries, president of the Rotary Club, said the group is always looking for projects to benefit the community or those in need.
He said the coat drive was an effort to provide coats to those who need them.
“If anyone has coats they don’t use, they can drop them off (at the give-away site), and if anyone needs one they can pick one up,” he said.
Members of the Rotary Club and the Kingwood Women’s Club recently partnered to provide buckets of cleaning supplies for low-income families.
Ries said this was a project request from the Raymond Wolfe Center.
Alix Evans, director of Catholic Charities Raymond Wolfe Center, said she “greatly appreciated” receiving and distributing the supplies.
“People ask us all of the time about cleaning supplies,” she said. “With COVID there is a big need for cleaning and disinfecting the house.”
Evans said the Raymond Wolfe Center was able to give away 25 scrub buckets full of supplies like Clorox, dish soap, sponges, disinfectant wipes, Spic & Span spray cleaner, paper towels, window cleaner and Brillo pads.
“We gathered up what we could so they could give it out to those who needed it,” Ries said.
He said anyone who has a project suggestion or would like to join the Rotary Club of Kingwood can email the club at rotaryclubofkingwood@gmail.com
