KINGWOOD — The Preston County Solid Waste Authority (PCSWA) has received a $9,000 e-recycling grant for next year.
Don Smith, who represents the Preston County Commission on the board, said the amount of the grant is lower than last year’s because they no longer have to accept CRTs, which are old televisions and computer monitors.
“It was more expensive when we had to take CRTs. When we were told we didn’t have to take them the price [for e-recycling] went down drastically,” Smith said.
In 2019, Paul Dorsey of Infinite Electronics Recycling of Weirton, who provided the e-recycling service for the county, estimated it received between 40,000 and 50,000 pounds of recyclables.
Board members decided not to remove the authority’s recycling Dumpster from PC’s Pizza in Terra Alta.
“They said they get a pile of cardboard,” County Litter Control Officer Jay Sowers said.
In other business, Sowers said he has been receiving complaints from people who say they cannot reach him by phone.
“It seems like more people are calling me and complaining about not being able to reach me,” Sowers said.
He suggested getting a billboard or brochures with the number. Smith suggested possibly renting a spot on the billboard across the road from the Kingwood Walmart.
“It costs $400 a month,” he said.
Sowers can be reached at 304-698-5594. Leave a message if he doesn’t answer.
No further action was taken.
in other business:
- Sowers said he has been writing a lot of littering tickets.
“A guy got mad at his neighbors and moved his trailer out,” Sowers said. “He threw everything out of his trailer into the neighbor’s yard and went on down the road.”
- Sowers also reported he bought tires and equipment to be used by litter control. Funding for the purchases came from a State Solid Waste Management grant.
- Board members approved the purchase of a $1,950, 8-foot-by-12-foot building to cover its Dumpster at Hopemont. The other quote received was $2,500 for a 10-foot-by-10-foot building.
