MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — For the second time this season, senior midfielder Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel of the No. 4-ranked West Virginia women’s soccer team has been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Barcelona, Spain, native scored a pair of goals in the Mountaineers’ 2-1 win over then-No. 11 Kansas last week. Ferrer-vanGinkel opened the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute, before she completed the brace with her second tally in the 16th minute. It marked her second career multi-goal performance and first since 2018.
Ferrer-vanGinkel finished the night with four shots, all of them on goal and helped WVU win its fifth consecutive contest. In all, she has found the back of the net in five of West Virginia’s eight matches this season.
Ferrer-vanGinkel is the nation’s leader in game-winning goals (4) and ranks No. 3 nationally in total goals (6), No. 6 in goals per game (.75), No. 8 in points per game (1.63) and No. 9 in total points (13). She sits No. 1 in the Big 12 in all of those categories.
The honor marks the second this season for the senior, who also was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 13. Additionally, she was named the Women’s National Player of the Week by College Soccer News on Monday.
