For over 20 years Jeff Sizer has been getting his tires changed at Tire Land on the Mileground but on Friday he got his tires changed at 1 Old Cheat Road.
In addition to being a long-time customer at Tire Land, Sizer is a family friend to the owner and wanted to be the first person to get his tires changed at the new location.
“He’s my number one customer at the new place,” owner Marion Zuccari said.
The new location gave Zuccari a chance to design a more efficient and larger garage. There are six bays with doors on both sides of the building and space for 10-12 cars.
“I designed it with the idea of not having to juggle cars around to get them in and out of the building to work on them” Zuccari said.
By comparison, Zuccari said the Mileground garage could fit three cars and a lot of work was done outside. The parking area was small and there was a lot of moving one car so a mechanic could get to another one to work on.
The new location should also have less issues with traffic.
With the increased space, Zuaccari said he’s ready to hire additional staff, if the demand requires it.
Another factor in the move was the state taking 10 feet from the Mileground location for the upcoming expansion project, said Karen Zuccari, Marion’s wife who “handles the accounting.”
Zuccari sold the rest of the property to the car dealership next door.
Tire Land was started in 1968 by Joe Zuccari, Marion’s dad. Marion, 67, started working at the business when he was 15, Karen said.
“He doesn’t want to retire, so here we are at our age,” Karen said.
Sizer said what separates Tire Land from its competitors is the service and how willing they are to work around your schedule.
He praised Zuccari’s fortitude in launching the new location during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting Monday, the new location will be open to the public. Hours will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday.
