WELLSBURG, W.Va. – Riley Nett and J.M. Jones each logged hat tricks as University pummeled No. 3 Brooke on their own turf, 7-0, en route to another state tournament appearance.
Jones got the Hawks halfway through the first half on an assist by Nett, and nine minutes later Nett doubled University’s lead. It took Jones just over two minutes to tack on his second goal to take UHS up 3-0 heading into halftime.
The second half played out much like the first, but it was Nett who opened up scoring this time sinking his second goal of the afternoon on an assist by Jones in the 23rd minute. Diego Medellin was able to make quick work of Brooke, taking the ball back downfield 25 seconds later to put UHS up 5-0. Two more goals, one each by Nett and Jones to secure their hat tricks, was just the icing on the cake for the Hawks, a statement heading into the state tournament bracket.
