The second story of the former Wild Zero Studios location at 229 Pleasant Street caught fire on Thursday evening.
A MECCA 911 supervisor said the agency started taking calls about the blaze at 5:26 p.m.
“Firefighters arrived on scene to a building charged with smoke that had fire showing off the front of the building on the second floor,” Morgantown Fire Department Chief Mark Caravasos said. “The building was empty and was vacant at the time.”
Firefighters forced entry into the building, gained access to the second floor and extinguished the fire, Caravasos said.
“They did a good job on it,” Caravasos said.
When The Dominion Post arrived on scene shortly after 6 p.m., firefighters were conducting “overhaul” which means checking for hot spots in areas such as the window frame and ceiling which was made of a material that held heat well, Caravasos said.
The window frame and ceiling were removed and thoroughly sprayed with water.
“There were from what I understand,” Caravasos said when asked if there were signs of drug activity in the building. “Signs of entry in the back of it and signs that somebody had been on the property.”
No utilities were connected to the building.
Caravasos said the building will be boarded up and fire marshals will investigate the cause.
