Charged for possession with intent to deliver fentanyl
The Mon Metro Drug Task Force arrested a convicted murderer from Michigan while searching a hotel room in connection with a federal counter drug trafficking operation.
Earvin Mott, 48, of Farmington Hill, Mich., is charged with possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, conspiracy, and prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
On Tuesday, the task force searched room 408 at the Marriot Courtyard, behind the University Town Centre Walmart, where they found Mott and Loren Delaney, who had federal and state arrest warrants, according to a criminal complaint.
Delaney is one of 25 people indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with a multi-state drug trafficking operation. U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia Bill Powell announced the unsealing of the indictment, which targeted individuals in Texas, West Virginia, California and Michigan, Tuesday.
Delaney was not on that list of indictments.
Inside the hotel room, the task force found a “large quantity” of gray powder that field tested positive for fentanyl, the complaint said. Two firearms, one of which had the serial number scratched out, and “indicators for the distribution of narcotics,” such as a digital scale, packaging materials and a large quantity of money, were also found in the room.
Mott was found guilty of “Literal HOMICIDE — MURDER — SECOND DEGREE” Dec. 1, 1999, in Michigan, the complaint said. He also has drug-related convictions, including a felony drug conviction.
Mott was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court by Magistrate Ron Bane. He is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
