West Virginia ranked No. 6 again; 25% capacity allowed for home games

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The WVU women’s soccer team was once again placed No. 6 in this week’s United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s National Poll, which was released Tuesday.

The Mountaineers have won four consecutive matches and are coming off a 1-0 win at Oklahoma last week. WVU has now been ranked in the top 10 in all six editions of the poll this season.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, only teams competing in the fall were considered for the poll. The number of teams appearing in each ranking is also lower due to the number of teams competing, resulting in a top-15 poll this season.

Once again, North Carolina (7-0) tops the rankings this week, followed by No. 2 Florida State (6-0) and No. 3 Clemson (5-2). TCU (6-0-1) is up to No. 4, ahead of No. 5 Duke (5-2-2) in the top 5. Following WVU, Arkansas (5-1) comes in at No. 7, with Texas A&M (4-1), South Carolina (5-1) and Virginia (5-2-1) rounding out the top 10.

Two more Big 12 programs are ranked this week, as Kansas (4-2) sits No. 11, while Oklahoma State (4-2-1) was slotted at No. 12.

West Virginia (6-1, 6-1 Big 12) is back in Morgantown for its final home match of the fall at 7 p.m. Friday against the 11th-ranked Jayhawks.

Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium to open with limited capacity
WVU and its Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will welcome fans back to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium for the first time Friday, when the women’s soccer team plays host to Kansas.

The stadium will operate at 25% capacity as part of the health, safety and wellness measures being implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The athletics department, in conjunction with the University’s team of medical professionals and appropriate parties, will not only cap attendance at approximately 400 fans for the contest, but will also take additional steps to increase fan safety.

Facemasks will be required of all spectators entering the stadium and should be worn at all times. Additionally, to provide a contactless entry, WVU has switched to mobile ticketing for all fans this season. Fans are advised to download and store tickets to their Apple or Android smartphone prior to arriving at the gate. No paper tickets will be offered. More information on mobile ticketing is available at wvusports.com/mobiletickets.

Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting wvugame.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME to avoid lines at the gate on game day. When purchasing online, tickets are $5 each. At the stadium ticket window on game day, any remaining tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors. The discounted online pricing will be available until kickoff of the match.

A limited amount of WVU student tickets also will be made available at the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
