KINGWOOD — Lisa Leishman was sworn in Wednesday as Preston County’s new circuit clerk.
Leishman will fulfill the remainder of the term of Circuit Clerk Betsy Castle, who is retiring Oct. 31. Leishman will be in office until the next election.
Also sworn in Wednesday by Preston Circuit Judge Steve Shaffer was new Deputy Circuit Clerk Darla Shaffer (no relation to the judge), who will take Leishman’s former spot in the office. Darla Shaffer will begin in the clerk’s office Nov. 1.
Castle announced her retirement in September. She came to work in the clerk’s office in 1979. She took office in 1987 and has been re-elected without interruption since.
Leishman has worked nine years in the clerk’s office.
