Service League of Morgantown will kick off the 13th year of its Charity Partner Program beginning Monday.

Ten percent of the Old Stone House Gift Shop’s gross sales Monday through Saturday will be donated to Community Kitchen at Trinity Episcopal Church. Catholic Services will be the recipient  Nov. 6-12.

The Old Stone House, 313 Chestnut St. in downtown Morgantown, is open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays  and will add Sunday hours from noon-4 p.m. Nov. 6-Dec. 20. All safety protocol is being followed and four shoppers are allowed inside at one time. Private shopping appointments on other days are available and encouraged by calling or texting “private shopper” at 304-685-5947 to reserve a day and time.

Owned and operated by Service League of Morgantown since 1935, the gift shop offers a variety of gift items, food products, West Virginia-made items, handcrafted items and used books.

Service League’s active membership selected these eight organizations to partner with in 2020-21 and each will receive 10% of the gift shop’s gross sales during the designated dates:

  • Oct. 19-24 — Community Kitchen at Trinity Episcopal Church
  • Nov. 6-12 — Catholic Services
  • Nov. 13-19 — Christian Help
  • Nov. 20-26 — St. Ursula Food Pantry and Outreach
  • Nov. 27-Dec. 3 — Pantry Plus More
  • Dec. 4-10 — CASA for Kids
  • Dec.11-17 — Mon County Child Advocacy Center
  • Dec.18-24 — Meals on Wheels (Morgantown)

In 2008, Service League of Morgantown expanded its community outreach through the addition of a Charity Partnership Program, which shared gift shop profits with nonprofit organizations in Monongalia County.

Each year thereafter, Service League’s active membership selected   eight to 17 nonprofit organizations to partner with, and each received 10%  of the gift shop’s gross sales during each adoption period. The number of nonprofits this fiscal year was  reduced due to the months of closure and lost income due to COVID-19.

Sixteen charitable organizations benefited from the Charity Partner profit sharing in 2019-20 and a total of $4,051.00 was shared with them. Solely through the Charity Partner Program, the grand total of donations over the past 12 years has totaled $39,433.18. Service League’s other board donations to the Morgantown community during this time frame also included $3,550 to other Monongalia County organizations.

Founded in 1935, Service League of Morgantown’s mission has been to give back to the local community to improve the lives of area residents through charitable, educational and cultural activities.

In its 85 years of existence, the league has contributed more than $401,100  to the Morgantown community. This includes over $26,000 to the Morgantown Public Library, roughly $82,537 toward books for Mon County School libraries and more than $292,600 in other charitable donations throughout Monongalia County.

The Old Stone House was built around 1795 and is the oldest stone dwelling in the county. It is listed on the National Historic Registry.
