Preston girls win cross-country conference championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Preston High girls’ cross-country team won the Big 10 Conference championship for the second year in a row Wednesday.

The Lady Knights placed all seven of their varsity runners in the top 20 positions. Allie Martin (third; 20:20), Abby Nolan (fifth; 21:23), Chloe Stark (sixth; 21:24) and Cozette Ries (10th; 22:11) were first team all conference.

Earning second team all-conference honors were Ella White (16th; 22:35), Sophia Saurinio (17th; 22:46) and Chloe Cale (20th; 22:59).

The Preston boys finished fourth in the Big 10 standings. Fairmont Senior won the boys’ championship.

Will Farkas earned first team all-conference honors for Preston with his seventh place finish (17:56). Earning second team all-conference honors were Braxton Hartsell (17th; 19:03), Kyle Knowlton (19th; 19:12) and Tyler Martin (20th; 19:13).

Both teams will compete in the Region I AAA Championship today at Wheeling Park.
Preston’s Paul Martin was the girls’ coach of the year and Dayton McVicker of Fairmont Senior was the boys’ coach of the year.
