Verna Gibson

Verna Mae Gibson, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born in Stewartstown on Oct. 4, 1925, to Wayne and Hazel Blosser.

She was a lifelong resident of the Stewartstown area and member of the Eden United Methodist Church where she was a board and choir member. She was an avid Mountaineer fan and participated in league bowling for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Leonidas (Bud) Gibson, and four siblings, Charles T. Blosser, Pauline Harris, Nancy Nicholson and Morris Blosser.

Verna is survived by her two sons, William H. Gibson and his wife Joan, of Morgantown, and Charles T. Gibson and his wife Nancy Carol, of Morgantown; and daughter, Carol L. Davis and her husband Donald L. Davis, of Maidsville. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Karen Gibson, of Orlando, Fla., Jessica Davis, of Asheville, N.C., Daniel Davis, of Morgantown, and Jane Gibson, of Morgantown. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Harry Gibson, of Lebanon, Ind., and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides of Morgantown Hospice for their devoted care for Verna during her last few months.

Due to the current COVID-19 social distancing rules, public visitation will be held at Eden United Methodist Church, Eden Church Road, Morgantown from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 with a graveside committal service to follow at Eden Cemetery with Certified Lay Minister Lee Haught officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Eden United Methodist Church, c/o Charles Gibson, 1690 Pt. Marion Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
