Rilla Ann Smith, 79, of Morgantown, passed away Monday Oct. 12, 2020, at her home. She was born Dec. 19, 1940, in Fairview, a daughter of the late Josepheus “Buck” and Helen Gump Henderson.
Rilla was employed by the Monongalia County Clerk’s Office for many years. She was Baptist by faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, especially her stuffed peppers and pineapple upside down cake.
She is survived by her children, William E. “Bill” Smith, David Lee Smith Jr. and wife Lora, Debra Sue Jenkins and husband Tim, Joseph Franklin Smith and wife Anna and Erica Dawn King and husband Josh; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with two additional great-grandchildren on the way; four brothers and one sister.
In addition to her parents, Rilla was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Smith.
Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 14 and again from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Damon Nicholson officiating. Rilla will be laid to rest beside her husband at Hagans Cemetery.
Face coverings will be required along with proper social distancing when attending the visitation and services.
