Clifford Eugene “Corky” Thomas Jr., 69, of Kingwood, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, at his home with loving family by his side.
He was born July 22, 1951, in Oakland, Md. a son of the late Clifford E. “Buck” Thomas Sr. and June Gidley Thomas.
Corky was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He was a volunteer in the Kingwood VFD for 51 years, during that time he served as fire chief for 21 years and was King Fireman for the 67th Buckwheat Festival. He was a WVU/RESA fire instructor and chief of the Preston County Hazardous Materials Response Team. Corky retired as a shift supervisor for Mon Power at the Albright Power Station, was a member of the VFW Post 826 and the Kingwood Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Diane Liston Thomas; his two sons, Chad Thomas and wife Kerri, of Valley Point, and Logan Thomas and wife Pam, of Kingwood; his sister, Donna Thomas Hart, of Kingwood; four grandchildren, Evan, Hayden, Coen and Scott; and two nieces and a nephew.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Corky to the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department, 115 Brown Ave., Kingwood, WV 26537.
Browning Funeral Home is in charge of cremation services and a private family graveside service will be held.
