Still waiting on COVID results two months later
On Thursday, Sept. 17, the paper told us that COVID-19 testing would take place Friday, Sept. 18, and the nasal swabs would be processed by Q-Labs. I still do not have results from Q-Lab testing that took place in the Coliseum parking lot. I go to their site, type in my info that they ask for along with my registration number. Their message is that my specimen has been received at the laboratory and is in the process of being tested. This can take up to 3-5 days. The testing was approximately two months ago, and I still get this same message. They give an email address for questions. Twice, I sent emails about my lack of results but got no response. I hope the participants last Friday have better luck than I did.

Prioritize health, safety of students, teachers
After spending 41 years in the public schools of Monongalia County, I am a strong supporter of our local educators. It is my opinion that we have some of the finest teachers to be found, and I strongly believe that children belong in school where they can receive the quality education they deserve. However, I am also very concerned about opening the public schools while our county is housing many WVU students who have tested positive for the coronavirus.
While many important people argue about the colors on a map, real people are suffering from a virus that has proven to be fatal in many cases. This is not a game; nor is it a political debate. It is a real health hazard that can harm the citizens of our county and our state — 200,000 Americans have died!
I cannot understand why it is OK for some schools to be open and for some college students to play football, while the rest of us are making difficult decisions about whether to go out for groceries or see a doctor. This just doesn’t make sense to me. We are living within the serious constraints of a worldwide health crisis. Until a safe, effective vaccine is available, this is our reality.
The safety and health of our children and their families should be foremost in the minds of the leaders who are making the decisions regarding the public schools. This is much, much more serious than the colors on a map. This is the reality with which we must be concerned, and the WVU students are part of that reality as long as they are present in our county. Manipulating the colors will not help us!

Sen. Capito could cost us our health care
I wonder how the current threat to our health care will affect your election decisions.
We can be certain that our senator, Shelly Moore Capito, will obey the Trump party’s order to approve the appointment of another radically conservative Justice of the Supreme Court to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
With a solid conservative majority, the Court is certain to overturn the Affordable Care Act, including the crucial requirement that all insurance policies provide coverage for pre-existing conditions.
Although Capito and the rest of the Trump gang have promised to protect health care, they have not passed any legislation to protect those with pre-existing conditions nor to protect people who lost their insurance when they lost their jobs.
With the election close at hand, I am curious how many people in West Virginia are prepared to vote against their own interests by reelecting and thereby rewarding Shelly Moore Capito and Donald Trump for destroying our health care.
I guess we get the government we deserve when we ignore what we need and when we ignore our own self interests.

AG William Barr doesn’t deserve his position
U.S. Attorney General William Barr has no business in that office.
He has the attitude protesters have no right to protest Black Lives Matter and suggests he is the diadem of determining justice, and all others in administering the rule of law are subordinate to him and must obey whatever he decides.
As far as I’m concerned, both Donald Trump and his appointed William Barr are traitors to the American people. They and others covertly hid truths, or lied about them, presented in the Mueller Report showing Trump/Russian collusion to rig/alter the 2016 presidential election.
The collusion now is Donald Trump and William Barr eliminating the Justice Department rule of law for their own choice of dominant enforcement over our American rights and independence. Both need removed from our government.
