ROANOKE, W.Va. – A brand new chapter of Quail Forever is coming to West Virginia, and the public is invited to attend their inaugural “Chapter Start Meeting.”
The meeting will take place Sept. 26 at Stonewall Sporting Clays in Roanoke where the chapter will officially form with the signing of the charter. Attendees will learn more about Quail Forever and the first fundraising possibilities. It will start at 10 a.m., and lunch and drinks will be provided with an RSVP. For those who would like to shoot after the meeting, the group asks for people to bring your gun and ammo.
According to a flyer released by the new chapter, it hopes to spur the return of quail and other wildlife in the state by creating habitat, introduce more people, including children, to the outdoors and empower its volunteers to spend 100% of their net funds.
After years of cooperative work with Texas, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources reintroduced bobwhite quail to the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area in Logan County in early March. The 25,156-acre WMA was chosen due to the habitat created for the reintroduction of elk in recent years. Quail were virtually wiped out in the brutal winters of 1977-79 in conjunction with habitat loss.
