Harold Croft

Harold Franklin “Gabby” Croft, 82, of Morgantown passed away Friday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2020, at his residence.

Gabby was born Sept. 19, 1937, in Nellis (Boone County), and was a son of the late Keith Clifford and Ivy (Hager) Croft.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Louise (Hall) Croft; a son, Jeff Croft and his wife Gretchen, of Morgantown; his grandchildren, Garrett Croft, Lindsey Barilla and her husband Andrew, Reid Croft and his wife Jessica and Leighton Croft; his great-grandchildren, Brooke, Colton, Annabelle and Zane; and his siblings, Kenny Croft, Dean Croft, Charles Croft, Judy Field and Marcell Menear.

In addition to his parents, Gabby was preceded in death by a son, Van Franklin Croft, and his siblings, Roger Croft, William Croft and Dolores Purdue.

Gabby was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing. He was proud to have received an “undocumented hole-in-one.” He was a hard-working man who spent 32 years as a coal miner. While in construction, he assisted in the construction of the WVU Coliseum, and several road projects in the area.

His greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Friends may join Gabby’s family to honor his life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown, from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9 and again from noon Thursday, Sept. 10 until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. officiated by Reverend Neil Leftwich. Following the funeral service, Gabby will be laid to rest at the Gladesville Cemetery.
