Black Lives Matter march planned in Kingwood

KINGWOOD — A Black Lives Matter march will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the park by the Kingwood Pool.

Originally organizer Frank Goines II had planned to hold the gathering on the Preston Courthouse lawn. County Administrator Kathy Mace told Preston commissioners Tuesday was their last meeting before the gathering, so it would have to be approved then.

Goines told The Dominion Post he couldn’t attend the Tuesday morning commission session and hadn’t been able to print the application to use the courthouse lawn. Instead, he moved the gathering to the Kingwood park.

As precautions against COVID-19, everyone is being asked to wear a mask, and Goines will check everyone’s temperature. Anyone registering over 100 degrees will be asked to leave, Goines said.

Goines said he organized a peaceful march to point out areas in law enforcement that need to be changed.

“If I can get one person to agree or to agree to disagree with me that there’s a problem with law enforcement that needs fixed, that’s all I want,” Goines told the newspaper earlier. “I don’t know how else to fix it. If it makes life easier for my children to live in this community, it’s worth it.”
