Susan Darby

Susan Dawn Darby, 66, of Bruceton Mills, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of the late Michael Shuppe and Betty (Harned) Shuppe, she was born March 26, 1954, in Morgantown.

Susan was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved and treasured her whole family dearly. She was a proud member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Bruceton Mills as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Susan retired as an LPN from the Suites at Heritage Point in Morgantown in June 2019 after a long career of serving the elderly and others at various places in the community.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Hugh Darby; a daughter, two sons and their spouses, April (Darby) Shay and Jay Shay, of Bruceton Mills, Thomas Hugh Darby II and Cindy Darby, of Greenville, S.C., and James Ray Darby and Amanda (Benson) Darby, of Bruceton Mills; six grandchildren, Will, Lena, Owen, Paisley, Jackson and Amelia; a brother, a sister and her spouse, Michael Shuppe, of Pickerington, Ohio, and Priscilla (Shuppe) Kimball and John Kimball, of Beaufort, S.C.; a brother-in-law and spouse, Jim and Charlotte Darby, of Culpepper, Va.; a brother-in-law, Jessie Monroe, of Bruceton Mills; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father- and mother-in-law, Hugh and Maxine Darby; a sister-in-law, Patricia (Lebnick) Shuppe; a sister-in-law, Jane (Darby) Monroe; and a brother-in-law, Warren “Butch” Darby.

Family and friends may call at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Centenary-Bruceton Mills from 2-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, and at the Centenary Church from 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastors Steve Wotring and Mark Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Valley Cemetery in Bruceton Mills.

Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, will be assisting the Darby family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Amedisys Home Health Care, 5007 Mid Atlantic Dr., Morgantown, WV 26508.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and for the safety of everyone attending the visitation, visitors are asked to wear a face covering, practice social distancing and avoid lingering after paying respects to the Darby family.
