Showers to continue; use caution on roads

Cloudy, rain-soaked skies, which may have played a part in a wreck Monday on Interstate 79, are expected continue throughout the week, should clear just in time to kick off the holiday weekend.
The two-vehicle crash on I-79 in Marion County sent one person to the hospital Monday morning.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, one person was taken to the hospital because of the crash, which was reported about 10:22 a.m near mile marker 139 on I-79 North.
The patient’s condition and what caused the crash are unclear at this time, though the son of one of the driver’s involved said the weather was a factor.
The interstate was closed from about 10:30-11 a.m., at which point one lane was opened to traffic, a Marion County 911 official said. At 1:53 p.m., both lanes were open.
Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Winfield Volunteer Fire Department, West Virginia State Police, Marion County Rescue Squad and Mannington Rescue Squad also responded to the crash.
National Weather Service of Pittsburgh meteorologist Shannon Hefferan said some showers and thunderstorms are expected today, though the system is mainly east of the area.
“Another system disturbance will move in with more rain by late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and carry through until Friday,” she said.
The highest precipitation rates are expected for Tuesday and Wednesday.
“There is motion in the atmosphere, so it should keep going,” Hefferan said of the system, adding chances throughout the week for rain are about 60 percent.
“It looks like you’ll be out of woods late Friday, as a cold front goes through,” she said, adding it will make way for a pleasant day Saturday, with clear skies and highs in the mid-70s.
But the nice weather won’t last.
Rain is likely to return Sunday, so if you’re looking to celebrate this Labor Day weekend, Heffran said, “Saturday is your best bet.”
