David Scott “Scotty” Petry 44, of Terra Alta, passed away on Monday Aug. 10, 2020, at Preston Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.
He was born April 16, 1976, in Harrison County.
Scotty was nonverbal and had many disabilities. He came to live with Kenneth and Mary Helmick who helped raise him and attend to all his needs since 1985. Scotty was raised with the Helmick family, one brother, three sisters, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Scotty graduated from Preston High School. He enjoyed family time, going camping, loved watching basketball, cars and loud trucks that went by his home, his fruit smoothies and enjoyed the kids wheeling him around. Scotty touched so many people in his lifetime. He would look at you with his big beautiful brown eyes and had a smile that would melt your heart. He will be missed by so many.
There was no viewing or service due to COVID-19. Browning Funeral Home assisted the family with a cremation service and Scotty will be returned to the Helmick family home.
