A Morgantown man suspected of breaking into vehicles in the area of J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital over several days was arrested.
Danny E. Robertson, 43, was charged Friday with two counts of receiving or transferring stolen goods, two counts of petit larceny and two counts of tampering with a vehicle by Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.
A man reported that a brown barrel bag with two firearms in it was stolen from his vehicle at the parking garage on Willowdale Road on Friday, according to a criminal complaint. The victim provided a video of the “unique bag.”
While Deputy L. Kuretza was handling the call, Ruby security said the suspect was at the intersection of Willowdale Road and Irwin Street, the complaint said.
Kuretza found Robertson carrying the stolen barrel bag, according to the complaint.
Robertson gave permission for his bags and belongings to be searched and several stolen watches, glasses, bank cards, medications, mail “and more” were found, the complaint notes.
“When it became apparent to Robertson that we knew the items were stolen he became rude and crass making insulting and disparaging remakes to myself and officers on scene,” Kuretza wrote.
Robertson did not say where the firearms were, according to the complaint.
“The guy denied even knowing about the guns at all,” Sheriff Perry Palmer said.
Names of other victims and video of Robertson breaking into vehicles and stealing items over the past several days was provided by Ruby, the complaint said.
Robertson is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $10,000 for the felony charges and bond was set at $5,000 personal recognizance for the misdemeanor charges.
