The West Virginia Botanic Garden will host its first wellness run for children from 9 a.m.-noon July 25. Registrants will be emailed about exact race times prior to the event.
“Wellness is a part of our mission and something we are proud to promote among our visitors and members of our community” said WVBG Education Director Erin Smaldone.
The event will feature running races for children and healthy food and drinks.
“This event is part of our wellness series at the garden, which also includes yoga classes and wellness workshops on a variety of topics,” Smaldone said.
“Running is a great way to stay healthy at any age, said event coordinator and WVBG board member Janet Paladino. “It’s been an important and fun part of my family’s health and wellness for many years.”
The family-oriented event will feature a series of 1-mile races for different age groups and healthy food and drinks.
Prizes will be awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each race. Registration closes July 22. Register online at wvbg.org. Race fee is $15 for WVBG members, $20 for non-members.
The races are for children ages 6-8 and 9-12. There may be multiple races for each age group, depending on the number registered to limit the number of children running together. Families of runners are welcome to come cheer them on.
The West Virginia Botanic Garden is at 1061 Tyrone Road. Visitors can find directions, learn more about the site, programs and events by visiting www.wvbg.org.
