Two Michigan men arrested for intent to distribute heroin

MORGANTOWN — Two men from the greater Detroit area were arrested by the Mon Metro Drug Task Force after allegedly finding more than a pound of drugs in their hotel room.

Matthew Thomas, 26, of Roseville, Mi., and Virgil Johnson, 27, of Oak Park, Mi., are each charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent and conspiracy to commit a felony.

On Monday, a task force officer obtained a search warrant for room 301 of the Super 8 Hotel on Venture Drive to find evidence that Thomas and other unidentified people were using it to possess with the intent to deliver heroin and other drugs, according to a criminal complaint.
About 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, the task force searched the room where both suspects were sleeping, the complaint said.

The search found about one-and-a-half pounds of a substance which field tested positive for heroin and fentanyl, the complaint said. “a set of items used to break down bulk controlled substances for repackaging and individual sale” and items used to smuggle drugs and avoid law enforcement detection were also found in the room.

A total of $9,500 was found between Johnson’s pants pockets and a desk in the room, according to the complaint.

Both men were arraigned by Magistrate Tim Pocius. Johnson is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
