A Morgantown woman is accused of threatening people with knives and scissors and throwing hot candle wax on one.
Ruth L. Johnson, 38, is charged with brandishing a deadly weapon, assault, obstructing an officer and refusal to give fingerprints by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, deputies were sent to an apartment complex on Van Voorhis Road, near West Run Road, because a woman — later determined to be Johnson — was outside the complex waving knives and a pair of scissors at “anybody close to her,” according to a criminal complaint.
When a deputy arrived, there was an “active disturbance” between Johnson and another woman, the complaint said.
Johnson refused to separate from the other people and was escorted to a cruiser, the complaint said. She then tried to walk away, despite being told not to go anywhere and was detained while an investigation was conducted.
The deputy was shown videos of Johnson walking around the public area outside her apartment with three knives in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other, according to the complaint.
The video showed Johnson walking toward people while pointing the weapons at them. At one point, Johnson went to her apartment, got hot candle wax and threw it on someone, the complaint said.
She was arrested and taken to the sheriff’s department, where she refused to submit to fingerprints, according to the complaint.
Johnson was arraigned by Magistrate Ron Bane and is free on $2,500 bond.
