Maxine Belle (Shaffer) Fortney, 97, of Tunnelton, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Pine Ridge.
She was born Aug. 3, 1922, in Tunnelton, a daughter of the late Morris and Ida (McDaniel) Shaffer.
She was a 1941 graduate of Tunnelton High School, a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church and the Fort Butler Post #826 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Maxine loved helping on the farm, going to the Tunnelton Senior Center and traveling with the seniors.
She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Marjorie and Hank Seifert, of Terra Alta, and Carolyn and Donald Casseday, of Reedsville; five grandchildren, Brandon Seifert, Michael Ridenour, Kimberly Ridenour, Scott Fortney and Chris Fortney; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Howard Wilson Fortney; one son, Ronald Fortney; four brothers, Gus Shaffer, Francis Shaffer, John Shaffer and Marcy Shaffer; four sisters, Elizabeth Hahn, Ethel Holmes, Catherine Burke and Marie Miller; and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price St. at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, with Pastor Tom Strahin officiating. Social distancing and masks are required.
