Major restoration work on sections of the Deckers Creek Trail outside Morgantown city limits will start Thursday.
The first section to be worked on will be from Rock Forge Lane to Summer School Road. This section will be closed Thursday and Friday.
This work will improve drainage, restore trail surface of compacted stone, and re-establish the trail’s 10-foot width. Work on the over 12 miles of trail is anticipated to take several months, depending on the weather.
The trail will be closed in phases. The Mon Rail Trial Conservancy will try to keep as much of the trail open in sections while this work is underway. It will result in the over 12 miles of new compacted limestone surface on roughly six-mile stretches — Rock Forge Lane to the Deckers Creek Greer limestone plant in Monongalia County and from Masontown to the trail end just past Morgan Mine Road in Preston County.
This project is partially funded from the Federal Highway Administration’s Recreational Trails Program and administered by the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways.
If safe, the Mon River Trails Conservancy will open the trail weekends.
