Jane D. Garrett, 83, of Morgantown, went to dance with the angels on Saturday, July 11, 2020. She was born May 2, 1937, to the late Augustus Drainer and Eva Grace Black Drainer.
She attended University High School while working at Morgantown Florist and was a proud cheerleader in the mid-fifties.
Jane was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She devoted and enjoyed 40+ years of her life caring for children all over Morgantown and was well known as “Mama Jane.” Vivacious, and always with a smile, she cherished her role as an amazing homemaker and a mother to all who came her way. She was a passionate WVU sports fan with a “Mountaineer Room” dedicated to her memorabilia. She was an avid bowler and participated in Morgantown area bowling leagues for decades. Above all else, Jane’s steadfast spirit taught us all how to persevere through tough times while always looking her best.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Garrett, in 1965; and long-term partner, James “Jimmy” Heston in 1991; a great-grandson, Logan Garrett Slater, in 2010; and son, David Garrett, in 2018. She was the fifth youngest of her ten siblings and was the only survivor for the last 11 years. Her seven brothers were Charles, Richard, Gerald “Jerry”, David, Edward, James and Bobby, and her three sisters were Ginger Drainer Robinson, Billie Lea Shrout and Peggy Ann Scios.
Jane is survived by her son, Daniel A. Garrett; daughter, Debra K. Garrett; Darren L. (Amber) Heston; nine grandchildren, Michael Garrett, Katy Garrett, Kristina Garrett (Jim) Locklar, Kaylea (Aaron) Bequeath, Codee (Wes) Miller, Tessa Heston, Christopher Heston, A.J. Stone and Brandon Heston; as well as four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. The family would also like to acknowledge the exceptional care and devoted staff of WVU Medicine, Care Partners and Hospice.
A private service will be held at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Friday, July 17, for immediate family. A celebration of life will be announced at a later time with an open door for all who wish to honor her. In remembrance of Jane, memorial contributions may be made to Clear Mountain Bank 102 Venture Drive Suite 1 Morgantown WV 26508 c/o Kristina Garrett/Jane Garrett Memorial Fund.
