MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia defensive tackle Darius Stills was named the Preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday, the conference announced.
Stills, a Fairmont native, was named to the All-Big 12 first team after recording a team-high 14 1/2 tackles for loss. He was also the Mountaineers’ co-leader in sacks with seven with younger brother Dante.
Stills was named to the Chuck Bednarik Watch List earlier this week, which goes to the best defensive player in college football.
Stills was the only WVU player to appear on the All-Big 12 preseason first team. Oklahoma State senior running back Chuba Hubbard was named preseason offensive player of the year, while Oklahoma redshirt-freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler was named preseason newcomer of the year.
